Winner Profile Winners have tended to be in the market here and experienced. Colonial is a unique course where distance is irrelevant so it brings in astute veterans who have seen plenty of the course. It has tended to attract a high quality field of late too with some big name winners. An ability to handle wind and bentgrass greens is essential. There has been just one triple figure winner this decade.
Collin Morikawa: Tremendous ball striker who profiles absolutely perfectly. Leads the Tour in Strokes Gained: Approach and GIR. Ranks 2nd in Ball Striking, 6th in Driving Accuracy, 6th in Par 4 Scoring, 7th in Birdie or Better, 13th in Proximity and 15th in Putting Average. Lost in a playoff here last year when missing a four-footer for the win. Has Top 25 finishes in the 2019 John Deere Classic, the 2020 Farmers Insurance and the 2021 Masters and RBC.
Patrick Reed: The best putter on Tour, ranking 1st in Putting Average and 2nd in Strokes Gained: Putting. Also ranks 8th in Birdie or Better. Finished Top 10 at his last two Augusta starts. Won the Farmers Insurance this year. Finished 10th in the 2020 Memorial. Finished Top 15 at his last two starts here and recent form is solid enough.
Corey Conners: Arguably the best iron player on Tour. Ranks 3rd in Ball Striking, 4th in Strokes Gained: Approach and 8th in GIR while he ranks 10th in Driving Accuracy and 19th in Par 4 Scoring. Finished Top 10 at the last two Masters while he finished 4th in the 2021 RBC Heritage and Top 25 in the 2020 RBC and Memorial. Played here three times and finished Top 20 twice. Form is great, leading the PGA Championship after one round and finishing Top 21 in five of his last six starts.
Mid-Tier Chances Emiliano Grillo: Quality iron player. Leads the Tour in Par 4 Scoring while he ranks 3rd in Proximity, 3rd in GIR, 5th in Ball Striking and 12th in Strokes Gained: Approach. Finished 2nd at the RBC and 9th in the 2019 Memorial.
Chris Kirk: Won here in 2015 and has six Top 16 finishes here in his last nine starts. Ranks 4th in Par 4 Scoring this season. Finished 7th at the RBC Heritage.
